Adventures in Blended Learning

Hello!

Allow me to introduce myself.  I am a 7th grade math teacher with 9 years of experience in the middle grades mathematics classroom.  I started this blog to share my findings and thoughts on my experience blending my classroom.  I’ve always considered myself a traditionalist when it comes to teaching math, but I have had an awesome opportunity to be a part of a 1-to-1 Chromebook initiative this school year.  On this page, you will find my thoughts about blended learning resources in the math classroom.

In general, I find that math can be a tough subject when it comes to blended learning.  There is such an emphasis on showing your work and formatting that often times math teachers shy away from doing math with technology.  I think that the key word that we should be looking at is “blended.”  In no way, shape, or form, should technology completely replace all of the paper and pencil math that your students are doing in your class.  What technology should do is reduce the mundane, repeatable tasks that bog your class time down.  Technology should help us become better math teachers by helping better identify needs in our class instantaneously and reducing wait time for valuable academic feedback.

I hope you enjoy the resources on this site.  Contact me at any time!
